Joseph R. Loftus

August 10, 1996

Duane,

My name is Joseph R. Loftus and I have been monitoring your site for several months now hoping to find a link with my side of the Loftus clan. I was alerted to your site by Diane Loftus Condrey and I apologize for not writing sooner. I currently live in outside of Nashville, TN but my family homeplace is Western Kentucky. I am married with two sons, Joseph Michael Loftus, and Jay Patrick Loftus.

My great-grandparents came to the USA from Crossmolina, CO Mayo in 1863 and settled in Henderson KY. Both were Loftus before they were married, with one's parents owning an estate and the other's parents workers on the estate. I cannot find out which were the owners and which were the workers. My great-grandfathers name was Martin Loftus and he married Anna Loftus. Supposedly after the marriage they were banished to the USA and entered the country at Stamford Conn. Martin's parents were John Loftus and Margaret Hubert. They had I believe eight children - William, Mary, Pat, Bessie, Michael, John, Peggy, and Martin.

Anna's parents were Hugh Loftus and Jane Dacy. I believe they had eight children - Maria, Delia, Anna, John, Barbara, Jane, Pat, and James Joseph. I do not have much information on this side of the family and think maybe this will be the most likely to find a connection. According to family records Anna's grandparents were Daniel Loftus and Mary Moran. They had six children - Hugh, Barbara, Cecilia, Bridget, Pat, and Johnny.

Hopefully this contact will open up some new leads into my Loftus heritage! I can be contacted either at my AOL address - JLoftus625@AOL.com or I currently have another email address of Joe.Loftus@nashville.com

Thanks, Duane for the informative site and good luck to all the Loftus family members trying to connect the lines.

Gregory Lyon-Loftus

August 11, 1996

Greetings,

Born Gregory T. Loftus, I changed my name to Lyon-Loftus on the occasion of me wedding. One of the Greenbelt, Md. Loftus clan, I recently returned from a trip to Ennis Ireland where I met with Loftus family whom we believe to be related. In 1978 I visited Lofthus Norway and met the Loftus family there on their cherry orchard.

While in Ireland I visited the Genealogy center at the Limerick public library, selected a few references to Loftus and got more applications for additional assistance.

My father Joseph P Loftus his father Martin James Loftus of "Irish Hill" New York his father Patrick (I believe) whose missus was said to have washed her linens in the Shannon river before coming over to America.

more tidbits abound...

would love to climb on the merry-go-round with you

hope to hear

Hello,

I was just browsing and found your home page. You have a great start to what can be a big help to all the "Lofti" out there. While I am an American, my heritage is 100% Irish. My dad is a Loftus, my mom is a Corcoran, and I have Kelly's on both sides of the family. My dad has put together some information on our heritage and I will be happy to provide this information to you.

My dad was raised in Syracuse NY, and my mom was raised in Buffalo NY. I am 42 years old and I have three brothers, Daniel, Donald, and Douglas. My father's name is Joseph John Loftus. His brother was James and his sister was Florence. Again, thanks for the work you have done. I will follow up.

Who knows, we are probably related somehow.

Take care,

Dennis J. Loftus

Michael J. Loftus II

August 23, 1996

My name is Michael J. Loftus II (A common name in-and-out of my family)! My grandfather was Michael Loftus, born on Nov 29, 1900 in Rhenbrack, Foxford Parish, Co Mayo and died on Jan 29, 1972 in Ventura, California. He was married to Anna Martin, who was born in Castleblaney, Anamullan Parish, Co Monahan. Both rest in Ventura, California.

His father was Patrick Loftus, said to have been born in Culduff, Killaser Parish, Co Mayo (place of birth in doubt)in or about 1856. Patrick was married to Mary Clarke, born in Rhenbrack. Patrick abandoned his family in Ireland, so after my grandfather Michael emigrated to the US, he brought his mother Mary over to live with him. My father (Michael!) remembers her well. I believe that Patrick died in the Seattle area around 1933 or so and left other "family" up there. Patrick had the following siblings: Winifred, Marion, Patrick, and James.

Martin Loftus was born in Culduff, Killaser Parish, Co Mayo and married Catherine Murphy (Katherine?) Both were buried in Culduff. They had three children: Patrick (above), Tom, and Martin.

Michael Clarke was born in Rhenbrack and married Bridget Fanning from Oran Parish, Co Rosecommon. They had two children: Mary (Married Patrick) and James.

All of this came from my grandfather Michael in 1970. I have reason to believe that dates are approximations and that places may be questionable in some cases. I have seen email from one Bob Coe that leads me to believe that we are related through this mess! I hope to hear from him soon. My father reports that a "cousin" from around Boston or perhaps Baltimore visited his family in the late 30's or early 40's.

I would love to hear from anyone who has anything to share on this! Contact me at loftusm@ix.netcom.com.

Peace in Ireland.
