Hi
I am a descendant of Margaret Loftus (seventh daughter of Adam Loftus
and Jane Purdon) - which means I can really only claim the Loftus
name prior to the early 1600s.
I don't know whether you wish to note Margaret's marriage in your
list - she married Sir George Colley of Edenderry sometime in the
late 1500s and had several daughters and a son Sir William Colley
who was an MP for Kildare.
I
know very little about Edward, Adam's father, and would love to hear
from anyone that has traced their connection back this far. You are
most likely aware that St Patricks Cathedral in Dublin has a "Loftus
Vault" in which descendants of this family are buried. I have
a list of those said to be buried there should you not already have
that information.
Should anyone wish to contact me - I have two email addresses:

- Work
Best
wishes

Hello
Duane, Actually,
I sent the mail. I'm Brians wife, Suzanne. Apparently, this thing
doesn't like In-laws. *grin* Or after hours e-mail!
My
huband is the great grandson of a Loftus. Her name is Mary "Polly"
Loftus. She was born in 1863 in Wolverhampton, England. She married
an Irishman named Michael Davis (born 1853, died 1933) She died in
1897 and is buried in Irwin, PA along with her husband. I'm guessing
that they may have lived in that area. Anybody
have any ideas? All the help I can get would be greatly appreciated,
I WILL share, Honest!
I thought you might like to hear of a few decendants.
Thanks,
Suzanne Davis |

Hey!
Great
web page on the Loftus family name... I'd been here once before
a few months ago, and was prompted to come again after recieving
an e-mail from a Mark Loftus looking for Loftus sights (I gave him
this URL).
I
am a student at the University of Pennsylvania but am originally
from Boston, MA, where my grandparents immigrated to from Connemara,
Galway in I believe the 1920's... my aunt knows quite a bit about
some of our ancestors native to Ireland, but it all escapes me now...
I
was reading that you might be interested in setting up a sight with
pictures of the Loftus family. I happen to be on a server at school
with an unlimited disk quota, so if the idea is still in the air
I have a sight that I can store a lot of images on.
I
also have a Loftus Web Page for your list: http://www.stwing.upenn.edu/~gloftus/

How
goes it out there? My name is Frank Loftus (Franklin Michael Loftus),
age 27, and I'm a 1LT in the U.S. Army currently stationed in Heidelberg,
Germany with my wife Kelli, daughters Caitlin (10) and Carlee (4),
and son Colby (1).
We're
everywhere I guess. Of my minimal research I have also heard of
roots stemming from the County of Mayo in Ireland.
My
dad's name is William Michael Loftus (1938), he currently resides
in Frederick, MD and is originally from Humboldt, Iowa. His mom
and dad are Thomas Michael Loftus (died 1988) and Velva Loftus (still
residing in Humboldt. He has seven brother and sisters; names -
Leola, Patricia, Thomas, Michael, Larry, Joan, and Carla. Don't
know the names of any relatives beyond that generation.
Shoot
me a note anytime!

Greetings
from New Zealand.
My
wife and I have been on the Internet for less than a week and are
still very much beginners. It didn't take long to find out how to
use the various search engines however and being the sort of person
who looks up "LOFTUS" in telephone books whereever I go - well, here
I am.
My name is Michael (Mike) Loftus and I live with my wife (Lesley),
son (Tony) and daughter (Nicky) in Gisborne New Zealand. Our claim
to fame in this part of the world is that our city is the first city
in the world to see the light of the rising sun each new day. Understandably
Gisborne will be a popular place on 1 January 2000 and 2001.
This is all very interesting but I thought you might like to know
something about our branch of the family. Naturally I would be delighted
to hear from any long lost family by E-mail at basil@clear.net.nz
or by ordinary mail at 96 Stanley Road, Gisborne, New Zealand.
My Grandfather, Edward Loftus, was born on 25 August 1885 at 16 Blagdon
Street, All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. His father was John
Loftus, a slipper maker, and his mother was Henrietta Loftus (nee
Wickett).
Edward
travelled to New Zealand with a view to becoming a butcher and a farmer.
Those dreams were never realised because in a nine month period during
the First World War he was called up for military service, trained,
shipped to France, lost his left arm (yes he was left handed), and
was shipped home.
On 29 March 1918 he married Julia Ethel Ramsay in the town of Ashburton
which is approximately 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of Christchurch
in the South Island of New Zealand. They had four children, John (my
Father) (5-5-19), Patricia (20-11-20), Edward (19-12-33) and Margaret
(9-8-37). My Grandmother died in 1962 and My Grandfather in 1974.
My father (John, born 5 May 1919 and still going strong), married
Irene Margaret Capstick on 9 February 1946 and had three sons, Ian
(9-4-48), Peter (21-6-51) and myself (31-7-56) - yes I have just hit
40!!
I am often accused of rambling by my wife so I will leave it at that
for now. I hope this information is of interest or even of use. I
look forward to hearing from you some time soon.
Kind regards
Mike
