Mike Loftus
Hi Tom

My name is Michael Patrick Loftus. I live in Bridgeprot, Illinois although I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois (12/13/1953). Both my grandfather (OWEN LOFTUS) and grandmother MARGARET (OHARA) were from Ireland. I have documentation that OWEN was born in Westport, County Mayo but there may be a discrepancy on the birth date. On his citizenship papers it says he was 25 yrs of age in the year 1918 which would make his birth year 1893. Now I have found an OWEN LOFTUS in the social security death index of OWEN LOFTUS but birth date is march 6, 1891. This could be one in the same and also died in Chicago, IL. Still checking to see if date of death is the same. I see on your date of birth link on your site here that there was an OWEN LOFTUS born to OWEN AND MARY(BEGAN) 13/11/1865 - Owen Loftus Owen Mary Regan 13/11/1865, Sligo Castleconor. Now my thinking is that I have been looking for the name OWEN for a very long time and haven't really come up with much at all until now. With the dates from your birth records it is VERY possible that I have found my great and great great grandfathers and possibly grandmothers If this is indeed the right OWEN (its not a very popular name). Now if this OWEN born on 13/11/1865 would be my great grandfather that would have made him 28 yrs old at the time of my grandfathers birth (so dates do fit somewhat), see what I mean? What has really struck me on this is that I can remember my grandmother saying (at the time Ronald Reagan was president here ) we could be related but they spell it different (Reagan vs Regan) but really don't know if she was kidding or not. Now I'm guessing that he came over here to the states somewhere about 1913 because he was given citizen ship in 1918 in Macon, GA. to enlist into the military (also have enlistment and discharge papers ) but NOTHING about any other family members in Ireland. Now as far as grandma goes, MARGARET (O MARA) the spelling may not be right but that's the way it is on her death certificate. She was born march 6, 1893. The only thing I know is from info on death certificate and her fathers name was JOHN T. O MARA. Also that she was from County Kilkenny to my knowledge they did not know each other when they came to the states. They met here but I don't know where. I'm assuming that they met here in Chicago only because his discharge papers say Camp Grant, Illinois and that was August 11,1919. My father was born November 16, 1923, so again I'm assuming they met sometime between 1919 and 1920 and grandma was married before that (shame on her). She always hushed when that was talked about ..... anyway that is where I'm at on the Loftus family side and ANY help at all would be GREATLY APPRECIATED

Yours truly, Mike Loftus

I am attaching for you my family tree to date. Your website actually connected us to a cousin who had passed away in Australia, James Patrick Frakell. As a result, we were able to start our family tree.

The two Loftus' in the family are Hannah Loftus and Maria Loftus, who are my great grandmother and great Aunt respectively. Their father was Payne (no first name) and if you have any information regarding this side, please let me know. Payne married Hanorah (no last name) in Feakel, Ireland in or about the 1800's.

Apparently, Hannah Loftus (my great grandmother whose father was James Loftus) had a great grandfather named Adam Loftus. He was supposedly the first Provost of the Trinity College in Dublin, Archbishop Dublin or Armagh; Lord Chancellor under Queen Elizabeth I. These are her notes, don't know if this helps. That is all we have. Thanks to your website, we have made contact with numerous people in our family whom we have never known. It has been great.

Sincerely Elizabeth Dempsey.

Helen Loftus Gallagher
Tom,

My wife, Jann (nee Breen), is a Loftus decendant. Her grandmother, Helen Loftus Gallagher, lived on the South-side of Chicago. She was born in 1915 in Chicago, IL. She died while in Florida in 1991. She had 5 children with her husband, Donald (1912-1986): Donna, Maureen, Joan, John, James. Her father, James Loftus, came over from county Sligo, Ireland in late 1800's or early 1900's and married Ellen (or Eileen) Kelly from County Mayo. James Loftus had two children: John and Helen. He died in the Influenza outbreak in 1917-1918. From what we understand, James Loftus was one of 13 children. but, that's about as far as we can go with the relatives we have contact with. My wife was always jealous that I had more history on my side of the family, and was really excited when I found your web site. Any information or leads are appreciated.

Phil and Jann Yandel Wheaton, IL

My Name is Charles William Parsons, I'm 74. My Grandmother was Florence Bridget Loftus B.January 22 1889, D.January 24 1951 in Birmingham UK. I do not know where she was born. She married my Grandfather, William Rueben Parsons B.February 28 1877 D.September 2 1929 in Birmingham UK. I do not know where the marriage took place, possibly Birmingham. They had seven children, the third of whom was my father Henry Reuben Parsons. I can remember my Grandmother singing Irish songs and she had a strong Irish accent and a good sense of fun.

I wonder if anyone out there might just have a little information about her.

Please email if you have, thanks.

Anne (Altimus) Loftus
I am hoping you can help me find some info on my Anne Loftus(also known as Altimus). She was born in 1801 in Ross, Ireland and raised by an uncle, Owen Eustace. She ran away to Newfoundland to marry Thomas Cooper, who was a catholic. They settled in Nova Scotia and I am one of over a thousand descendants. I see on the Loftus family tree an Anne Loftus born in that time frame and that her father Dudley died in 1805.

I have no clue where the Altimus came from, it just has always been used when referring to her.

Any help would be appreciated.

Mary Grace Swift
Dear Tom:
I had a great grandmother named Bridget Loftus, born 1825 in Ireland. I don't know which county, though came rumors say Armagh. She married a William Gilmore in Scotland. They apparently left Ireland to live in Scotland temporarily and were married there, but then came to America (Ohio). Her parents were named James Loftus and Nellie Barrett. The mother of James Loftus was Bridget Brogan. I would love to find just the County they came from for sure, I'd be very grateful.

Sharon Gallagher Shaffer
I have a Mary Loftus married to James Gallagher born 1873 in Wilkes Barre PA. Not sure where Mary was born. The Gallagher line came from Edward and Bridget Gallagher Co. Donegal. Mary and James had one son Edward James Gallagher. I think Mary and James may have lived in Leadville, Co. at one time but ended up in Butte, Mt.

Thanks,

Donna Quinlan
Hello Tom:

I am looking for information for my mother-in-law. She is trying to trace her family and I was wondering if you could help. Her mother was Anne Holland. Anne's mother was Mary Coen (Cohane) and her father was John Holland from Galway, Tuam, Ireland. Mary's mother was Margaret Loftus and father was John Coen (Cohane). That is where I hit the wall. I don't know if you are related or if you have run across Margaret Loftus in your search but any information would be greatly appreciated. If you could steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

Donna Quinlan
