My name is Kristine Loftus and I had an Aunt Mary in Scranton,PA on my fathers side. He is one of 4 boys born to Joseph and Anna Loftus in the Bronx NY. The boys were Jimmy, Gerald, Jackie, and Terry. I remember going to visit her when I was little. My father went to Scranton quite often to visit. Ialso had other aunts and uncles there to but I don't remember their names. Aunt Mary was a Gemini like me and she gave me a necklace with a Gemini medalion on it. I'll see what else I can find out.

Hello!

My bother sent me to this website because I am so very into family history and got a huge surprise, I thought he had set up a page about our immediate family as he is a computer " dude".There is nothing I can figure out about our immediate family, however , everything that is here is very fascinating. Thanks and kudos to all who have worked so diligently on the Loftus history. Now, if it's cool with you, I'll give you something I have been told.My dad doesn't have all the history and his parents have passed, and I really am needing to know more, for my heart, and for my children, and to keep the knowledge alive. To start properly, I guess I should start with me and my brothers and work back.I am Sandra M. Germann, born Sandra Loftus, to Robert L.Loftus and Susan D. Loftus. My brothers are David M.Loftus, and Jeffrey S.Loftus.Me and my brothers were born on Long Island, N.Y.My father was born in Massachusetts to William and Dorothy Loftus. My grandfather died in a fire March 17, 1977.My grandmother Dorothy Mae was an Ellis before marrying William.I have been told that her grandmother, my great grandmother, was Jenny Wallace, born, lived, and died in Paisly, Scotland. So, I have nothing on the in-between, like, how or where or when my father's family arrived.Apparently, when Dorothy died in August of 1966 from emphysema, much of the history left with her, and I was a small child. My father's family was not close, his parents divorced, he has one older brother, named William, and there was a half -sister,older, named Dorothy, called Dolly.Dolly passed in December, 1997.I am more aware and familiar with the present generation, however, we are all in different places, spread from Vermont to Florida.I am in MD, as is Jeff, David is in GA.My folks are in FLA.I have three children, Sharon, Amy, and Eugene.I want to be able to find this information to pass on to them.If you have any information or direction that would enable me to further this effort, I would be grateful.

Thank you, Sandra.

Hi There,

My boss is Norman Loftus Ream, from Wrangell, Alaska. He said that his middle name is his Mom's family name. His Mom was Anna Ream and they are part Tlingit from that area. Does the name Anna Loftus Ream ring a bell? My name is Suzy, I am Norm's assistant and I am also Alaska Native, but from Kodiak Island. Thank you,

Dear Tom,

Would you have any cogniscience of a Richard Loftus, born after WWI, whose mother was a French Woman, "Kitty" Loftus, probably born between 1900 & 1910 in Paris France.

Kitty, divorced, was my father's first wife, and so Richard was his stepson. They lived in Brookly on Henry Street, Brooklyn Heights, though they were probably both living in Albany NY when they met. Kitty may have moved to Anneheim California and died within the last 10 years. Richard served in the American armed forces in WWII as a mechanic, possibly and airplane mechanic, and possibly worked for the Social Security Department; I knew him to be alive in the early '90s.

Hello Loftus family

My name is Malcolm Worker, and I am a member of the Orders and Medals Research Society. I am researching the medals of Lt Arthur Loftus R.N., and his son Captain Arthur John Loftus.

Arthur Loftus has a Naval General service medal with a clasp Java. I have basic details on his service, but would like to fill in more of the details of what he did during his service during the Napoleonic Wars, and what happened to him after.

Like-wise with Capt Arthur John Loftus, his medals include a Crimea Medal with clasp Sebestopol, and an Indian Mutiny Medal clasp Lucknow.

I would be grateful for any information that you may be able to pass on to me.

Regards

Malcolm Worker

Our nearest relative is Patrick Loftus, our 1st cousin, who lives most of the year in Hong Kong and who also has a residence in Adelaide.

I am so pleased to have found your site.

My mother was a Julia Loftus from Gortcloonbiggine, Claregalway, Co. Galway. She married a Peter Redmond from Dublin and had three children; Bernadette, Bridget and Sean (John ).

Julia had three siblings; Shamus (James) who remained unmarried; May, who married Michael Duggan and had seven children; Martin, Bridget, Michael, Thomas, Maureen, Winnie and John, most of whom still live in Cregboy Claregalway.
Her third sibling Sarah, married Michael Madden and I believe they had three children and moved from Loughgeorge, Claregalway, to Castlegar, Claregalway.

I believe that Julia's mother may also have been named Julia. Most of the deceased members of family who remained in Claregalway are buried in the local church yard in the grounds of the ruined Abbey nearby.

For baptisms, marriages and burials the local Parish Church in Claregalway. More information about Claregalway /local families can be seen on Claregalway websites.

Hi,

My name is Mollie Donohue and I've been tracing my father's family tree in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. I have found that one of his mother's aunts married a Loftus. Her name was Catherine Flynn and she married, I believe his name was, Joe Loftus. They had two sons named Joe and Thomas, both of the sons became doctors in N.Y. If you have any information on this group of Loftus I would like to hear more about them.

Thank for any help you can give me.

Tom,

I have just recently come across your web site & am very excited. I am hoping that you can help me. My grandmother was an only child. Her mother on the other hand was not & her father was not but I am having a hell of a time trying to track everyone down.

I just recently got a copy of my GGrandmothers death certificate that shows her Maiden name as Loftus & that she was born in Earlestown England. Her father's name was Martin Loftus. I know that her mother's name was Catherine but have no maiden name for her. I have been on the web page for Earlestown/Newton Le Willows & seen a lot about the town but have not come across anything that would help as of yet. Any info that you may have would be a blessing.

If anyone has info please feel free to give them my e-mail. My grandmother passed away in 1998 & unfortunately we (my mother & I ) were not on the ball as far as getting everything she knew about anything. My mother was very close to my grandmother & is very excited that I have started the search for her ancestors.

Thank you in advance for any information you may have. Oh, Catherine Loftus was born September 12, 1885. I have a middle initial but no name. The initial is L.

Thank you again,
Jennifer Dugan

Hi,

I recenelty started to find out more about my roots in Ireland. My family rarely talked about Ireland when I was growing up, but after questioning my grandmother, I gleaned some basic facts.

My grandmother's maiden name is Mary Ellen Brogan. Her parents, Martin J. Brogan and Bridget Loftus were originally from Parlawarla Boffeenaun, County Mayo (the spelling might be off). In the early 1900s, they left Ireland and moved to Harlem, New York. Bridget left behind three brothers, Peter, Patrick and Martin. She also had four half siblings, Ann, Ellen, Mary and Jack. She had half siblings because her mother, Ellen Maloney, died when she was four years old, and her father married a Bridget Quinn, who had four children from a previuos relationship. Bridget Loftus' father's name was Patrick Loftus.

Any information that you could offer would be great. I'm interested in knowing how my family made it through the Famine. Many of these stories have been lost after emmigration and over the years.

Bests,
Patrick O'Connor

Hello Tom,

My Grand Aunt is Thea Margaret Gordon and was married to George Henry Wellington Loftus, Marquis of Ely. Lady Thea now lives in Chichester in a home for the elderly. I have heard stories of the very fine living once experienced by herself and her husband at Ely Lodge, nr. Enniskillen, Ireland. She is now very elderly, but remembers very fondly the time she spent there. I have browsed your site and can find no mention of George Henry Wellington Loftus. I would very much like to add more information about Georges ascendants to my family tree. I know that George was born on the 3rd Sept. 1903 and died 31st May 1969. They were married 5 Sept. 1928 at Hove in Sussex. Any information regarding individuals or Ely Lodge would be most welcomed by me and my immediate family.

My name is Peter Stockwell. My wife, Sandra Beall Stockwell has a family history gathered by one of her relatives many years ago. Within the pages of the family history are references to Archbishop Adam Loftus of Yorkshire, born 1534 who married Jane Purdon.

I searched the Internet and discovered your website. When looking through the family line I observed the same information that was in my wife's record. The line continues until Letitia Loftus married Richard Parsons. I found this to be quite fascinating and educational. My own family of Metcalf is from county Armagh in Ireland. I, however, have not completed a family history as extensive as either your or my wife.

Good hunting for family members. And remember that a distant family line bears the name of Beall, as well as Parsons and Wallace (of William Wallace fame).

Hi,

I'm a descendant of some County Mayo Loftuses (Loftii?), from a Parish that was called Bachs and is now called Knockmore, south of Ballina, north of Foxford, and west of Swineford, on the banks of Lough Conn.

The lineage, as far as I can trace it, was Patrick Loftus and Julia Brennan who had a son named Martin Loftus in 1830, who married Mary Hinnegan, who moved to Jedburgh Scotland around 1860 and had quite a few children. John Owen was born in 1861 and married a Bridget McDonald, William married Nell, Julia married John Melvin, Barbara married Peter (O') Connor (b 1860), Mary married Tom Murray, Sabina and Martin apparently remained unmarried, and Winifred and Patrick died as infants.

In 1870 they moved to the USA, settling first in Luzerne, PA, in the coalfields, and then moving to Chicago about 1872 / 1873. John Owen Loftus and Bridget had a daughter, Anna Veronica, in 1894 who married Francis O'Kelly. Anna and Francis had two daughters, Rita and Anne, who married the Kelly brothers, Austin and Dan, thereby dropping the O'. I'm the son of Austin and Rita.

John Owen and Bridget also had a son, Martin Loftus, in 1888, who had a son,
Martin Loftus, in 1915, who moved to Ventura California and married a woman
named Marian. They had three children, Sharon, Patricia (Patsy), and Terrence (who posted to loftusweb in 1996 but is no longer at the listed email address).

William Loftus, who married Nell, had 3 children, Sis, Hannah, and Owen. I don't know much about this branch, except that they were in the Chicago area. Julia and John Melvin produced Helen (who married a Morgan), Sabina (1893), Mary, John (1884), Michael (1887), and Owen E. (1898) Again, I know little about this branch except that they were in the Chicago area.

Barbara married to Peter Connor produced Mary, Julia (1896), who married a McCarthy, John F. (1893) who married a woman named Elizabeth, Martin (1888), Anna (1890), and Patrick J. (1886). The Connor family eventually called themselves O'Conner family, starting around 1900.

I've had a look at Griffith's valuation and the 1820's tithe books for the Parish of Bachs. The area was full of Loftii at that time. Patrick and Julia were reputed to be from the townland of Carrowmore, which was full of tithe paying Loftii in the 1820's but had no tennants by the time of Griffith's. Presumably they were evicted before Griffith's, which may have prompted the move to Scotland.

BTW - the priest in the parish is Father John Loftus.

Tom,

Our family came from Yatesville, PA and later Pittston. Our paternal grandfather was Anthony Francis Loftus, DOB 13 March 1869. Father: Anthony Loftus, Mother: Ann Barrett. Grandfather Anthony Loftus married Katherine McManus of Hudson, PA. Do any of these names ring a bell. Anthony was a railroad man for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad in Hudson, PA. We have very little information on his family and ancestry.

Thanks for any assistance.
