| Dear
Tom, I stumbled upon your website tonight while investigating some information about my family name. Firstly let me compliment you on a great site. My name is Mark Loftus and I'm from Tuam, Co. Galway. Ireland. My Father's name is Thomas a.k.a Tim. he was born in 1931. He married a Tuam girl, Maureen (Mary) Eagleton in April 1960 in Essex, London. My paternal grandfather's name was Thomas also and he was married to a lady called Catherine (Kate)Larkin. They had 3 sons and 4 daughters as far as I know. Although I think there were more children although they died as children. My grandfather had two brothers known to me, Hugh (Hubert) and Mick Michael.) His sister was called Cecelia (Ciss) and she lived in America. I have to sit down one of these days with my dad and ask him more about his family. Perhaps, when I know more information, I'll send it to you to add to the family tree! I am the youngest of my family. I have three brothers and four sisters, who in turn have children and indeed grandchildren of their own now. One of my brothers, John resides in North London, He has a son and daughter Niall and Shona. Thomas (Tom)next to him in the family resides in Largs, Ayrshire, Scotland. He has two sons, Kieron and Adam. David my other brother resides in Tuam, and has two children Jessica and his son Lee. So the Loftus name is alive and well in many parts still. It's fascinating to see so many share the name. I'd be glad to hear from any Loftus' anywhere, especially if they think they might be related to me. Many thanks. Tom, I'm William Lofthus, son of Owen W. Lofthus from California and I saw on your website there was a Marguerite Lofthus-I think this was his sister. I also own a copy of the Lofthus coat of arms with the French inscription at bottom, "Prend Moy Tel Que Je Suis" (supposedly roughly translates today to What You See Is What You Get). |

| Tom My name is Marie Bullman and I am researching the Bullman family tree. One of my ancestors Joseph Bullman, married Ann Catherine Loftus on 13 March 1855 in The Parish Church of St Thomas, West Arbour Street, Stepney, Middlsex. She was born circa 1835 in Shadwell, Middlesex. Her parents were Thomas Loftus and Ann but I cannot find further information on either of them. On the wedding cert. of Ann Catherine there appears to have been a spelling mistake as she was entered as Loffest. I know this name is incorrect as other documents mention Loftus and my great uncle Tom was baptised Thomas Loftus Bullman. Can anyone supply any information on Ann Catherine Loftus and where the family may have orignated from. I would be most grateful for any information. Marie Bullman |

| Hi
Tom and so nice to find your website. My grandmother's name was Winifred Loftus and she was born in the Wirral. her father's name was Martin Loftus. Winifred married William Martin and the family moved between Wirral (Rockferry) and Bray where one or the other of them had relatives. Winifred and William had five children, Margaret, Philip (my father) Bernard, Joseph and another one whose name I'm not sure of (but may be it was John). Bernard is supposed to have emigrated to Australia. I am trying to trace my father's relatives (he lost touch with them and has now been dead for twenty years) I haven't been able to trace William's birth certificate at the Family Record's Centre which makes me suspect he was born in Ireland. I know that his father's name was Thomas. I am hoping to be able to trace relatives in Birkenhead, Wallasey, Liverpool area and in Ireland. Regards Jayne Cooke (nee Martin) |

| What
a delightful Web site! I am looking for any members of a Loftus clan that originated in Manulla, Ireland. My great-grandfather was James Loftus, born in Manulla, near Castlebar, in County Mayo, on 2 July 1860 (one report says 1864) to John Loftus (b. 1829 by one account, 1819 by another) and Mary Armstrong (no dob) (John and Mary were married in Balla, Manulla, on 11 May 1845.) James was one of 12 children. Siblings were: Thomas (b. 14 Feb. 1846) William (b. 3 Feb 1850; became a brick mason in Saratoga, NY) Anthony (b. 7 Feb. 1852; worked Arnold Print Works in N. Adams, MA) Martin (b. 20 Sept. 1853, died in infancy) Elizabeth (b. 26 May 1855; became a nun, St. Joseph of Carondolet in Troy, NY) John (b. 8 Sept. 1857, died in infancy) Mary Ann (b. 19 March 1859, died in infancy) Margaret (b. 6 Nov. 1861; remained in Manulla and married Thomas Clark) John Patrick (b. 29 Feb. 1864; became a plumber in North Adams, MA) Martin (b. 23 Jan. 1867; became a plumber in North Adams, MA) Hubert (b. 28 Sept. 1869; plumber, North Adams, MA; moved to Rochester, NY) James immigrated to the US in 1893 or 1894, possibly from Liverpool aboard the ship, “Teutonic.” He settled in North Adams, Massachusetts, and labored primarily at the Arnold Print Works. James married Margaret Holmes (from Cashel, Tipperary, born 1872, died 1936). James and Margaret resided at 161 River St. in North Adams. Several of James’ brothers also settled in the North Adams/Pittsfield area. Reportedly, brother Thomas prospered in real estate and operated a travel agency. Other brothers were plumbers. They formed a plumbing company, which was housed in the “Loftus Building” on Center Street in North Adams. According to family legend, the business was prosperous for a time, until a squabble degenerated into a law suit, which ended the concern and scattered several of the brothers to the New York area (including Schenectady). James and Margaret had seven children, four of whom died of diphtheria (another account say five children, two of whom died) Surviving children were: Elizabeth (my grandmother) (b. 20 Sept. 1890; Moves to Worcester, MA, in 1918 to attend Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing; Moves to New York in 1919 or 1920 to work as a nurse at “Debarkation Hospital #3”; On 1 February 1921 she married John O’Connell at Sacred Heart Church in Worcester. Lived in Worcester for 50 years. Two children: James William (my father) and Marie Virginia. Elizabeth died on 29 December 1971 Martin: Married Lillian Gauthier and settled in Pittsfield, MA Irene: Married Joseph Gauthier; died young. James Loftus, an avid lifelong reader and storyteller, died after returning from the North Adams Library, “arms filled with poetry books,” on 5 July 1924. Any info about James Loftus or his family would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! Best regards, Jack O’Connell |

| Dear
Tom, I am working on my Loftus genealogy, and it is getting quite extensive. My Loftus ancestors came from Crossmolina, Mayo, Ireland and settled in South Hadley, MA. Thought I would make contact with you to see if you knew of this family. Patrick Loftus married Nancy Gallager. Three daughters immigrated from Ireland, being Ann Loftus (1824-1889), Barbara (Loftus) Judge (1830-1897), and Ellen (Loftus) O'Neill (1832-1904). Two unknown brothers remained in Ireland, along with a Catherine (Loftus) Welch, who married Anthony McHale after the death of Patrick Welch. I am a descendant of Anthony & Catherine (Loftus) McHale. These Loftus sisters in South Hadley were working with the family in Crossmolina to bring over all of Catherine's children. She had 6 children with Patrick Welch, and 2 children with Anthony McHale. There are no records to indicate that Anthony & Catherine ever made it out of Ireland. I believe that both died around 1882. I intend to visit Crossmolina within the next year to research the family further. Any information that you may have on any of them, would be greatly appreciated. When I am finished documenting this Loftus line in America, I can print and mail you a report. Thanks, Paul Broderick |

| Dear
Tom, Would you have any cogniscience of a Richard Loftus, born after WWI, whose mother was a French Woman, "Kitty" Loftus, probably born between 1900 & 1910 in Paris France. Kitty, divorced, was my father's first wife, and so Richard was his stepson. They lived in Brookly on Henry Street, Brooklyn Heights, though they were probably both living in Albany NY when they met. Kitty may have moved to Anneheim California and died within the last 10 years. Richard served in the American armed forces in WWII as a mechanic, possibly and airplane mechanic, and possibly worked for the Social Security Department; I knew him to be alive in the early '90s. John Loftus, son of Owen Loftus and Ann Davis, b. abt. 1797, Burrishoole parish, County Mayo, Ireland, d. April 16, 1862, Flos, Ontario, Canada; m. Mary Needham, b. abt. 1808, County Mayo, d. | Hello, I am writing to add some tidbits to the Loftus websites. I was born Alice Elizabeth Loftus in Phila PA on 6/19/38. I have had minimal luck in backtracking looking for whatever I can find about my father, Raymond Ignatious Loftus, born in PA - probably near Philly - from the 1930 Census I found out that he was a male, white, 31 at time of last birthday, did not attend school or college after 1929, he was able to read and write and his mother and father were born in Ireland. His wife at that time was Grace, who was born in PA, father born in NY and mother born in PA. They had - at that time, one child, John who was 9 yrs old in 1930. My mother's name was Alice Lawrence -raised in Philly - she had been previously married to a man named Bishop from Riverside, New Jersey and may have used that name if and when she married my dad. At one time, she had an all girl band - so goes old family chatter. Ray was an stage entertainer - singer - traveled the Keith vaudeville circuit, the J.C. Mack Co and toured with Bob Hope in WWII. He last worked in the Main Line area of Philly as a singer prior to 1956 or 1957. I have an old - faded obit about him and I can't tell if he died April 11 1956 or 1957. - Back in the late forties and early fifties he worked in Atlantic City in the summer - the Philly area in the winter and had an oyster bar at 2nd and Lehigh in Philly. I calculate he was born in 1899. For a time, he also worked as a motorman on the trolleys in Philly. Do you have any information that might be useful to me in my search????? ALICE CATE |

| Hello
Tom, I am the great granddaughter of this lady, yet, have little solid record upon which to build, as all was burned in a house fire when I was young. She said she was born in January in Buffalo N.Y. Her tombstone reads 1845 to 1939. Yet, family stories recall her saying that she was 14 years old when President Lincoln was assasinated. That would put her being born in 1851. Family memories say her father was Daniel Henry Loftus; her mother, Mary Martin. These people lived/homesteaded/farmers in Russell Wisconsin. Family memories recall siblings: Bridgett(died in Little Falls Michigan?); Mamie (died of ?); John Linn ; David. Mary Ann and her husband John had seven children. The oldest, John, was born in Russell Wisconsin 1873. The baby, Martin, Jan. 23, 1893, in Gate Washington. They lived in Gate, WA from 1890 until they died. I live in Olympia Washington, and hope to find information about Mary Ann's Irish, Catholic, background before going on a "roots" trip to Ireland later this year. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks, Sally |

| Hello
Tom I am a Loftus originally from Auckland, New Zealand but have been living in Australia for 13 years My great-grandfather was Peter Loftus who was born in Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland in 1843, his mother's maiden name was Joyce. He had an older brother Francis who served in India in the India Company forces then returned to England, one of Peter's brothers is supposed to have emirated to Seattle, USA Peter enlisted in the famous 57th Middlesex Regiment known as the "Die-Hards", then went to India with the Regiment at the close of the Indian Mutiny. The Regiment left Madras in 1860, arriving to Auckland, New Zealand in 1861, where Peter fought in the NZ Land wars, when the regiment returned to England, Peter took his discharge and established himself as a bootmaker in Wanganui, NZ where he married Annie Houlherhon. Annie's father was reputed to have been a Frenchman of Irish descent who married an English girl. Peter and Annie married in Wanganui, NZ and they had 9 children, one of whom was stillborn, but Frank, Ernest, Florrie, Eva, Maurice, Len, Mabel, and Laurie grew up in Wanganui. My grandfather was Ernest Loftus who married Louisa Kroening in Wellington and they had my father Brian Loftus, who died in 1965 in Auckland. I am one of six children, 3 boys, 3 girls, although we lost our oldest brother ten years ago in sad circumstances. As you can see I have been busy over the past few years researching our family tree. I live in Melbourne and if any other Loftus' are interested in communicating with me they can do so. I must say that your website was the very first site I went onto when I got the internet at work, it was so thrilling to find other Loftus' in the world who are interested in their family heritage. It was the second marriage for each of them. She was also born in England
of Irish parents. He died on January 24, 1925 in Chicago. His address was

was his son from a previous marriage. I am looking for any connections to my grandparents either in Chicago or Ireland. Thanks, Kathleen Kathleen Dion |

My great great granfather was born in northern Ireland in july 1835 to Martin Loftus and Ellen (Dempsey). James married Sarah Huddart in 1854 in Liverpool England and then they migrated to Australia of the same year. It is easy tracking down james in Australia, but l can not find any record of his parents or siblings. It is believed James had two brothers who migrated to America and possibly in some service.
